(Level II) This up-tempo arrangement is based on the classic Wes Montgomery altered blues. Guitars 1 and 2 play in octaves (ala Wes), with guitars 3 and 4 providing accompaniment. Solo section can be opened up for all ensemble members. Written for 4 guitars, rhythm guitar, piano (optional), bass, and drums. CHIP HENDERSON has been regularly performing in musical settings ranging from traditional Dixieland to chamber orchestras since making Memphis his home seven years ago. In that time he has performed formally and informally with notable musicians such as Marvin Stamm, Frank Foster, Ernie Watts, Bill Mobley, James Williams, Donald Brown, Mulgrew Miller, Alvin Fielder and George Cartwright. He has performed with many well-known Memphis area artists such as Charlie Wood, Joyce Cobb and Herman Green. Aside from performing with various small groups and big bands in the Memphis metropolitan area, he has appeared numerous times with the Jazz Orchestra of the Delta, the IRIS Chamber Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony, the Jackson Symphony (TN), the University of Memphis Faculty Chamber Ensemble as well as various Broadway show pit orchestras (where he is often called to play tenor/plectrum banjo, mandolin and ukeleles). He has studied privately with Charlton Johnson as well as taken part in lessons and masterclasses with guitar greats Calvin Newborn, Attila Zoller, Peter Leitch, Freddie Bryant and Mark Elf. Chip currently teaches jazz guitar, jazz history, jazz theory, and is the jazz guitar ensemble director for the University of Memphis' Jazz Studies Department. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Music (1997) and a Master of Music in Jazz Guitar Performance (2002).
