The Other Pillow has a light, pop-music sound, and should appeal to a variety of listeners. The feel is straight, not swung, and alternates between half-time in the first section, and easy samba in the second. The harmonies are extensively major key, with much use of fully extended chords, suspended sounds, modal shifts, and temporary key centers. The ensemble is often split, with two guitars in octaves, then sixths, stating the melody, and the other three guitars providing melodic and rhythmic accompaniment. The solo space is structured so that Guitars 1 and 2 both have changes and the top line of the background figures.Written for 5 guitars plus bass and drums.
