(Level IV) Blues on Hawthorne Road is an original by Dan himself in the style of Count Basie to offer genuine big band music most suitable for advanced high school and college bands. This F blues features a simple but memorable melody supported by a swing shuffle feel, an absolutely essential style to be known in jazz repertoire. Two “sparse” choruses feature fragments of themes and motifs between sections, then a solo section backed by bluesy background figures, followed by an exciting shout chorus. DAN KEBERLE has been teaching, directing, and performing jazz on the trumpet at the professional and university level for the past 23 years. For the past 18 years he has been Director of Jazz Studies and trumpet teacher at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, where he is also the Music Department Chair. His Whitworth Jazz Ensemble has been selected to perform at three All-Northwest MENC Conventions, and has been the first place college jazz band at the 2004, 2002, 1999, 1998, 1997, and 1995 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festivals. In 1995 Keberle was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and spent six months teaching jazz at the University of Capetown, South Africa. He has also directed six jazz residencies with Whitworth jazz students in Munich, Germany; Rome, Italy; Melbourne, Australia; and Havana, Cuba. He is also the Music Director of Spokane's professional big band, the Spokane Jazz Orchestra.
