A quick bop throughout with frequent interruptions of the meter. The lines are generally busy and legato with "be-bop" endings. There are good parts for all and the scoring is varied: Some unison playing, some in harmony, some in a polyphonic mix. The drummer keeps the hat going during some of the stopped measures and, in others, adds fills. Each solo improv begins with blues changes in stop time then continues in an uninterrupted Eb blues. This section may be repeated as often as desired for each soloist, and can be varied in any way the group sees fit with different players soloing and covering the changes.

JON GRIER holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kalamazoo College, a Master of Music Degree in Composition from Western Michigan University, and a Master of Music Degree in Theory and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition from the University of South Carolina where he studied with Dick Goodwin and Sam Douglas. Jon has taught Advanced Placement music theory and music history at the Greenville Fine Arts Center, a magnet school of the arts in Greenville, SC, since 1988; he composes frequently for student and faculty ensembles at the Fine Arts Center. Jon has also been a writer/keyboardist with the jazz-fusion ensemble, Oracle, since 1984.
