(Level II) This arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen uses a jazz trio with written out parts to back up a very rhythmical version of this seasonal favorite. The drummer is suggested to use brushes. It opens with a baritone or bass section solo and features divisi parts that would be well suited for a good-sized vocal group. The voices are often treated instrumentally by singing short clipped words and syllables and the bass line is set to mimic an upright string bass. It’s short, fun to sing, and ends on a major triad! John Turner has held the position of chief music arranger for the USAF Academy Band in Colorado Springs, Colorado and in addition to writing for military bands, his arrangements have been performed by the Colorado Springs and Pueblo Symphony Orchestras. Turner’s arrangements appeared on the 1986 Grammy nominated album by the Four Freshmen entitled “Fresh.” His works currently appear in the catalogs of Lillenas and Lorenz. Mr. Turner is presently the piano accompanist for the Wasson High School Vocal Music Department in Colorado Springs, and is the leader of two local bands in the Pueblo area. He earned an M.M. in Music Composition from the University of Northern Colorado in 1995, and is proud to note that two of his three sons graduated from the University of Northern Colorado.
