(Level IV) This chart tells the story of a person whose life has been touched by difficulty, facing alienation and isolation, but over time is able to overcome these barriers. The music carries this story and helps paint a vivid and touching picture. Musically, it is a mixture between ECM and pop sounds and is a strong and memorable piece in a concert for its unique approach. Features a tenor sax solo. SATB w/ rhythm section

KERRY MARSH is the Director of Vocal Jazz at California State University, Sacramento. He received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in jazz studies from the University of North Texas. He was the director of the UNT Jazz Singers II and sang in the UNT Jazz Singers under the direction of Paris Rutherford. He also sang for six years in the University of Kansas choirs under the direction of Simon Carrington, a founding member of the acclaimed King's Singers. Kerry was the winner of a 2003 Down Beat Student Music Award for Best College Jazz Arrangement. Marsh is an active vocal jazz clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States; and is a member of IAJE and ASCAP.
